I guess it would also depend on who the accident was with. If it was with a normal driver, then you'd still have to take human error into account.

I still find it hard to believe humans, actual cannae wipe their a*se right or boil an egg people, are allowed to zip about at speed in a ton weight

Clarkson actually raised a genuinely interesting point about them. If you are in a car that drives itself and are about to crash into a bunch of kids, not hitting the children means you will be killed. At that point it's up to the car to decide who's life is more valued.
