...gamut of emotion, grand and statley to loose and groovy, fast and aggressive to gentle and heartfelt, the mix of input here is balanced and it shows in the end result. Although, i don't know why, all these elements SHOULD mean it's a better effort than SMPT;e or BRIDGE ACROSS FOREVER.. but it isn't. Nothing here hits as hard as ALL OF THE ABOVE, has such a memorable hook or as big an impact.

But , it's a slightly different Transatlantic on this album, the heavier use of Roine Stolt's guitar shows a side which compliments their other releases, and it's the same with the album as a whole. It's not their best release, perhaps to surpass themselves properly, they'd have to overwhelm us, and the type of classic, sophisticated prog they specialise in can't do that every time ..

...but what it can do is give us a listening experience to remember, one to connect with and treasure. Transatlantic are 4 very skilled musicians having a great time playing the music they grew up listening to, and all love playing. To get such a superbly crafted album , that sounds as if they've been together decades, is praise enough, and that we expect such quality and skill shows just how

.....much of an impact those first two albums had 8 and 10 years ago. This is a release of the highest quality, has a 'part time' group EVER made such a legacy given a week each time in the studio? a fantastic album 9 out of 10

yeah dean it's not as easy to get into as their other two albums, being as near as dammit to a concept album. One tihng i didnt mention was Neal's lyrics, and themes.. 'the whirlwind' appears to be a thinly veiled warning on the evils of mankind. To amnkind destroying the environment, god will judge you, ye of little faith... 'the wind blew them all away'...

woops dodgy typing there (tut)... but it feels like a biblical style lesson, comparing the state of the world to some 'judgement day'.. talking about faith and such Morse-isms.. his sections are full of biblical metaphors, which i guess goes with the territory, and doesnt ruin the album, unlike Sola Scriptura, which i just had big trouble wading through Morses insistant preaching.
