i imagine the majority of you will be wincing at the x-factor over-produced pop schmaltz that the mighty cowell has opted to subject us to this christmas, so those of you that don't already know my be interested in the movement to keep it from the christmas number-one spot, which i shall now divulge for the benefit of those unfamiliar with the ploy... |

the plan is to go to as many (legal) music download sites you can think of, and purchase the widely respected Jeff Buckley version. Now, most of these sites only charge a few pence to download a single song, so you can probably go to all of the ones that are actually counted toward the uk chart (i don't know them offhand, somebody else may be able to help out) and only spend a couple of quid.

the idea is that if you all do it, and encourage all your friends to do it, the godawful racket being churned out by the corporate monsters won't make it to the christmas number one slot, which every fking x-factor winner has been guaranteed, dealing a hefty blow for both genuine music lovers and those that simply enjoyed the camp silliness of the annual christmas number one battle.

Why would you care about what song tops the chart?

doesn't the uk chart require a physical release alongside downloads?

i know it used to be that the download had to be accompanied by a physical release, whether a release from previous years count I don't know....plus the rules might have changed again....the charts don't interest me so don't keep up.

M4stodon, it's a 'British thing', the xmas no 1. Whether you care about the charts or not, a lot of people have fun with the xmas no 1s. It's hard to explain.. Anyways, the Jeff Buckley version is great, and I've heard about this campaign. I believe the attempts will be futile tho, but count me in anyways. And no physical release is needed anymore I believe.
