It is indeed. Love both of 'em, although Satch more from a purists perspective and Vai for adrenaline rush madness.

Yes its true. Great guitarists both, but probably i prefer Satriani coz his music is more straight hard rock than Vai's music. I have seen Satriani live once, the guy is amazing guitarist. And, he was also the Deep Purple's guitarist in 1993-1994, something that it make him more legend

And Vai was with Zappa - even has a song dedicated to him: 'Stevie's Spanking' from Them Or Us. Still use Satrianis 'Tears in the Rain' from The Extremist as a ringtone from time to time.

And 'For The Love Of God' is a superlative technical showcase, albeit with a surprisingly pedestrian rhythm.

''For The Love Of God'' is great ballad, the live performance of this song in G3 is amazing. And yes, Vai was with Zappa, you can see his influence in many Vai's songs. He was listening what Zappa was playing and he was writing down the notes of everything. Also Zappa used Vai_and_for this reason, coz he couldnt write/read notes

just listening to Passion and Warfare again ('cos the topic's got me started now, lol) and although you've got Chris Frazier on drums and Stu Hamm on bass, the rhythm of the whole album is workmanlike at best - seems to happen with a lot of guitarists who make solo albums - the rhythm section is more of a necessary evil than an integral driving force.
