Hip Hop was born in the South Bronx in the mid 70's started by Kool Herc. He mixed obscure funk music like The Incredible Bongo Band's Apache so the rappers would rap over the rhythm section known as the breaks or break beat. 1st rap record was by The Fat Back Band with King Tim III followed by Sugar Hill Gang's Rapper's Delight in '79. Then became Electrofied then later hardc*re to multi billion selling Pop music

its not necessary to do crime to be acclaimed in rap/hip hop!it seems like you associate it with all that but 98 of rappers have never belonged to a gang.

...Hip hop is much more than a genre...its a culture..its a movement..its a way of life..its the voice of the people facing oppression...social injustice..a representation of the masses subjected to racial abuse and in-equality...it represents much more than lyrical content over loop beats..glorifying a said lifestyle..
