Keep your mobile phone switched off when listening because you dont want to spoil the moment.

DO audition speakers in a proper hifi shop with a listening room. Dont rush the speaker selection process as you want to get the best sounding pair for your money.

Dont play s*h*te music on your hifi system. If you want to be a discerning listener then you will have to buy quality recordings by quality artists. James blunt or the arctic monkeys dont cut it as quality recorded artists.

It's hard to carry a cd player around, and about mp3s, you can burn the cds using good software at high bitrate.. Not as good as a cd but it's easy to change from album to album, playlists, shuffle and it's easy to carry..

Why shouldnt u put ur speakers in the corners of the room
|
||
@yogoda | 26 April 08 | |
the bass response builds and also the soun reflects...even does it if speakers are too near the wall

You have to remember that the sound is radiating from your speakers in a 'cone', rather than a straight line - the closer they are to a wall, the more quickly the reflected sound will return and merge with the output sound, creating a distorted or 'coloured' sound. The distance between your speakers should also be smaller than the distance to your normal listening position.

See pic7 on my wapsite (to save you cycling through all of 'em, go to: http://garion.prodigits.co.uk/pic7.htm) you can see that there's only about two feet between the speakers and the corner of the room, but this is adequate. They're also 'toed in' (angled) slightly towards the listening position - (the futon you can see the edge of)
