On any mobile device, what should the standard camera megapixels be? |

it's the quality of the sensor that counts the most over how many megapixels, and no, I'm not stalking you. the new Galaxy s7 is going to have less megapixels than the s6 but a much better sensor |

Yes the S7 lets more light in so better photos in poor light

My Microsoft 950 has 20mp pureview camera pretty good liked all the lumias that had pureview cameras esp the 1020 41mp sensor , plus the symbian 808 same sensor but bit too chunky

I wud say 6mp wud be enough for poster size photos. At least the fewer pixels shud give better low light performance.

the old pureview cameras actually beat some of the latest phones in 2018 especially the Nokia lumia 1020, 950 and even the older 808 exactly as Sisfreak2017 says. the Lumia 950 and 950XL are still supported on Windows mobile 10 untill at least summer 2019 too new phones tend to over process images too. out of the models ive mentiones here the Nokia 808 takes the most natural photos with the 1020 coming in at a close second.

however, the 950s benefit from much faster hardware which helps processing and the dalay between taking shots in quick succession etc plus they have 64 bit CPUs which make them more future proof. ideal if anyone wants to port android to them perhaps? just a thought anyway. they can also shoot unlimited 4K video recording and the quality of that is still good even by todays standards. and handily, there is a memory card slot too!

although todays high end phones certainly perform better in low light, the old pureviews beat them in other areas.
