@ skatty - 24.01.17 - 08:23pm Kinda defeats the object. I thought so, but since having one, it's thrown me completely. Everything i know about bikes and cycling, almost irrelevant. Firstly, it's not for normal use. I don't use the motor to hold upper speeds, it's off whenever the pedals are stopped, which is more than you realise. The motor simply gives you a push when you need it, i.e when you'd normally have to drop a load of gears - hills, and getting up to speed. For me, the object is varied. Getting out there, riding about.. it's all the same. It just means you have more legs instead of lower gears for the tough parts. |

@ recurve16 - 24.01.17 - 07:33pm Bumped for mikey... You probably wouldn't have been able to avoid it either, but then, i can't speculate on your driving from here. |

I've got a 24 speed Claude Butler, that seems to do me fine on the country roads, I'd much prefer my push bike. Each to their own. |

You wouldn't use it on country roads, it'd never even kick-in. Unless you got lazy and was pedalling fast but gently, it'd think you need assistance. But as long as the pedals are only going at cruising speed and you're just cruising along at a medium pace it wouldn't even kick-in. It'd just be a load of weight for nothing. Here, i use the redway network - a shared pedestrian/cycleway system seperate from the roads. This is very up and down, because of all the landscaping. So one minute i'm just coasting around, next i have to pedal up a steep hill into an estate. Having the motor flatten out all these hills keeps consistency. |
