It was really good thanks Madam, it was a massive success, 75 male cancer patients put in touch with a range of services to help them through post-treatment. This kind of thing might be a regular event for all cancer patients around the country.

Cancer isn't the surefire death sentence it used to be, but it's hard for anyone to know how far it is and what the odds are. In this bloke's case they were chasing it, and the time came quite quickly where we knew. But despite all the breakthroughs, i see it pretty likely it's the old fashioned cancer reputation lingering. It is a very aggressive killer, people don't know how serious it is, and no matter the advances it's not exactly flu. I wouldn't be expecting people to be comfortable with it any time soon, and that will continue to be reflected in attitudes toward it for sure. |

The only way to change that old fashioned reputation is to raise awareness. The difficulty in fighting cancer is that it isn't just one disease, there are different variations, there's no one magic bullet. Treatment changes and improves rapidly, a guy I know had prostate cancer and the same treatment as me 11 years ago. Since then it's improved immeasurably and image based radiotherapy that we had was first used on patients at the Christie.
