Finally heard one for the first time... Well two, after 2 RAF Quck Reaction Alert Typhoons flew over Yorkshire earlier. Though they were explosions, shook the entire house and set off car alarms. I knew sonic booms were loud, but wow...my head is still ringing |

What were they reacting too? I didn't think they were allowed to break the sound barrier over built up areas, except in genuine emergencies.

I think i've heard them, but didn't know what they were. I remember hearing a bang once, sounded like an extra large shipping container had been dropped onto a car park from a height. Or something.

@ obi_jon - 2.05.16 - 11:13pm What were they reacting too? I didn't think they were allowed to break the sound barrier over built up areas, except in genuine emergencies. A civilian aircraft that had lost communications is all they said, they reestablished contact and it landed safely... Apparently an Air France flight to Newcastle lost comms and went off course, so that at a guess |

@ guillium - 2.05.16 - 11:28pm A civilian aircraft that had lost communications is all they said, they reestablished contact and it landed safely... Apparently an Air France flight to Newcastle lost comms and went off course, so that at a guess Scrambling to intercept an unresponsive(possibly hijacked) aircraft would definitely fit the allowed criteria. |
