Okay, so I have this friend who does a lot of travelling for work. He visited US recently, and stayed with people he didn't know at all. He said it's not very uncommon to do something like that in America plus it's cheaper than a hotel. How odd. And he had a great experience; said the host family was very welcoming. But I'm highly critical. How can you stay over at a stranger's house? And how can anyone have a stranger stay at their house they don't know well at all? Each to their own, surely, but it's too unsafe. Don't you think? I think people are probably more trusting in the US lol Would you have a stranger stay overnight at your house? |

I've only had friends of friends stay, even back in the days of house shares. People stayed at the family house all the time, but we we're down to close friends there.

I don't like people I know staying either, and I don't like staying at other peoples, even if I know them. I really appreciate my space, I'm pretty easily drained by others lol

That's not to say I'd never ever consider it. If that's how life happened. But I probably wouldn't enjoy it.

Nobody ever wants to stay here. I have to put some real effort in to stop them getting away.

Yes. Unless they were relatives or very good friends, I wouldn't let or have anybody in. You'd have to be at least an acquaintance. Too many creeps and weirdos up here. You never know what someone is up too. It's really hard to tell people's motives. |

I think it depends on the place. People are probably more trusting in the US. Over here, people would not take in strangers. Delhi is not safe. City's crime rate is high. In other parts of India, people are welcoming and hospitable, but not here. In big cities, one would not take in strangers. If I had strangers in, I'd probably get murdered or I'd wake up the next morning to find they robbed lol |

Got robbed once by some random slag a housemate brought back. Only a few CDs, she tried not to target my stuff.

Was wondering am I a bad person if I turned someone in a desperate situation away? Like if someone had escaped an abusive family situation with nowhere to go, or let's say it was raining heavily and I didn't let them in? I would want to help. But I don't want a Texas chainsaw massacre in this house.

I don't expect random people to let me in their house just because it's raining. Does anyone?
