Drug deaths rose sharply in England and Wales to reach record numbers last year, official figures show. There were 2,917 deaths from illicit drugs in 2018, the Office of National Statistics said, a rise of 17percent Most deaths were due to opiates such as heroin, but cocaine deaths doubled in three years. A government adviser blamed cuts to treatment programmes, while health officials said they were commissioning an independent review. A total of 4,359 people died due to drug poisoning last year, the ONS said - a figure which includes accidental overdoses and suicides from medicinal drugs, as well as illicit drug use. It was also the biggest annual increase in drug deaths since records began in 1993, the statisticians said. Deaths from drug misuse among men aged between 40 and 49 rose significantly, they added. |

Shame..nothing worst than seeing someone wasting away from drug use.. Where there's no hope or future, you'll find drug and alcohol use as well as an elevated mortality rate.. Our indigenous stuck on reserves throughout north America are a prime example.. The intelligent ones move away, the poor folk stuck on default digress at an alarming rate. |

It's too bad most governments are more concerned in investing in foreign aid than their own infrastructure and residents

@ 9362 - 16.07.19 - 06:37pm Named today as the worst place for drugs deaths in the eu. Nearly 1,200 last year. Three times as many as England. Why is it so bad and what is the Scottish Government doing about it? ''Named today as the worst place for drugs deaths in the eu.'' Not for long. |

Better or worse than the streets of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and many other left wing American cities that are devolving into third world country status?
