There's literally nothing wrong with him 'holding on to the reigns' whatever that means. There's long been procedures in place for any temporary absence such as the Foreign Secretary chairing meetings. Any sudden change now would do more harm to public confidence than anything else.

And tbf hes only been taken in as a precaution as hes had symptoms over 7 days. If he feels well enough to continue then good on him.
