@ mikeymk - 20.08.23 - 07:04pm I still don't trust the snoops. I talked vocally with someone about a very unusual subject one day, phone in pocket, then got spammed with ads for that item. I need to do a security review but I already went full-on with security once when Facebook decided to tell everyone my house was left unattended for the night. Like yes Facebook, I'm sure burglars are thrilled to know i've just arrived at Zurich airport but could you just fkn not..? Just because I used a cafe's wi-fi... there's tonnes you can turn off including location updates. I don't really trust any company who's only means of making money is thru selling ads. |

You have to turn off certain apps permission settings to access your phone's microphone to stop the word/voice recognition generated ads thing. There's plenty of vids on YouTube on exactly which apps and permissions you need to change and exactly how to do it, some of the settings are hidden away in hard to find or even secretly accessed menu pages.

The microphone is listening in the background all the time(if you let it) and compling lists of words it recognises, these lists are then used to generate ads in exactly the same way they would be if you'd typed them into a search engine.
