@ mok214 - 5.11.14 - 01:39am I saw some study on BBC News that says shift work makes you dumber. If that is true, imagine what that does to doctors and nurses at hospitals. I can believe that. I've been working shifts since the 90s and never get used to it. I switch around in a day on the face of it but not properly. I rarely know what day it is, sometimes I don't even know if it's day or night. I'll be out in the street and there's no traffic and I find myself wondering why. But if I work lots of overtime so I work the same shift like seven days in a row, something magical begins to happen - I start to wake up, my head starts to clear, can think properly and generally get it together. But whilst I keep switching about, it's always intrusive mentally. And yet I like it for it's benefits, so i'm not tempted to switch to office hours. |

Isn't that because when you have flexible and/sporadic hours you may have more time to think and figure things out, so most things feel so jumbled with the free time as well as the lack of routine? Therefore when you have that set routine you jut know what happens at what time, it's been instilled into you sort of that there's less hassle and figuring out but more so a familiar program that you follow?
