@ bozzalad - 4.10.16 - 02:45pm we have a fixed term system, end of story. There is a get around for that though. A 'no confidence' back bench revolt. Risky, as the Tory's are basically saying 'we have no confidence in ourselves'. But, on the other hand, with labour in pieces, now may be the best time. |

An early election is the last thing Labour should want.

@ kimjongl - 4.10.16 - 04:06pm An early election is the last thing Labour should want. Not saying labour would be the ones with the no confidence vote. I'm talking about an engineered Tory back bench revolt to get around the fixed term problem |

I think a 2/3rds majority vote is needed for an early election. You could end up with a bizarre situation where the Conservatives vote no confidence in themselves and Labour vote against them to prevent a disastrous general election for themselves and inadvertently give a vote of confidence in their rivals.

May will want to see brexit through to the end. An election in what, 2020, will give probably 3 years from triggering article 50. An election in 2017, with May banking on a Tory landslide, will give them 5 clear years

Exactly. Not saying it's the best scenario, but it is possible |
