@ mikeymk - 10.10.18 - 03:42pm Nobody can really do anything about someone's mental health but themselves, mental health changes, and nobody is in the same position. There is no single perfect model of sanity. The message of awareness is all very well but everyone has their own preferences, expectations, tolerances. You can try and influence people but that's still only your influence, your personality, your choices. If you think no one can do anything about anothers mental illness then I dunno what to tell you. While the individual has to need the help and change, others can be very influential in being supportive and encouraging, as well as tolerant to help move someone to get the assistance they need. Not everyone with a mental health issue will acknowledge the new help and get up an go. In most cases it’s families and friends that are the catalysts in them getting the help they need. Then there are the off situations where they do things an send up in a psyche ward and they are mandated to get that help. |

@ obi_jon - 10.10.18 - 03:43pm It's not just in third world countries though is it There are plenty of hardcore godheads in your country(and mine) who believe they can just pray people's problems away. Well thats true, it could be any country but again its all because of ignorance. |

Heres a deeper look at how mental health issues affect Americans: 1 in 5 (or 43.8 million) adults experience mental illness in a given year. 1 in 25 (or 10 million) adults experience a serious mental illness. 1 in 100 (or 2.4 million) live with schizophrenia. 2.6 (or 6.1 million) of Americans have bipolar disorder. 6.9 (or 16 million) suffer from severe depression. 18.1 (or 42 million) live with an anxiety disorder. 90 of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness. |

@ sisfreak2017 - 10.10.18 - 03:56pm i Disagree, id say ''modern-day lifestyle'' is very relevant to mental health. Well yeah, I guess. And with some experiences causing the illness to emanate , from a once latent place. |

Then there are the off situations where they do things an send up in a psyche ward and they are mandated to get that help. It was clear to me that I had some pretty severe issues by the time i was 18 and i battled with pretty severe mental health my entire 20s. Until I was about 23 nobody had ever had the patience or knew what to do, but I finally got into a circle of pretty exceptional friends. You could say it worked eventually, though even they'd had enough by the time i was in my 30s. I certainly look back on them more fondly than they do of me. But it mostly took me. I've had millions of inspirational moments over the years, and spent a lot of time soul searching. My 30s was the first time I could take control. I'm thankful to the people who gave me an era of the peace and friendship i needed, to be in a position to sort my nut out. But ultimately it was all my own work. And whatever they thought they were doing to help, i can assure you, nobody ever had a fkn clue where i was in my head. |

Obviously no one can know exactly what is happening with someone suffering inside, they may see signs and figure you may need help. Some obv will not deal with it at all. These days yiu tell someone youve suffered from anxiety or depression and they say bye because no one wants to really take care of someone if they do not need to. Good for you fir having that will and knowing that you needed help. Also, your friends that you speak so fondly of were helpful in possibly steering you to the point where you know you needed that help. |
