@ gt_tdi - 5.10.20 - 01:00am This doesn't explain why the sun rises and sets. If it's going around ''the flat plane'' then how does it also travel across the sky from one side to the other? Because I asked you if the sun orbits the earth and you've given the above 'explanation' which seems to suggest that no, the sun doesn't orbit the earth, so where does it go when it disappears beyond the horizon? i wasent meaning the needle was the sun, i should have made that clear on other message, you see it moving across the sky because its going around the earth, when you cant see it anymore it has just travelled further than our eyes can see, its about perspective. |

@ obi_jon - 8.09.17 - 10:04am Oh wait, yes I can. Belief in a flat earth is usually(but not always) rooted in a flatearther's religious beliefs, considering that the primarily cited origins of flat earth ideas are indeed the Bible and the Qur'an. It seems to me that the recent resurgance of people believing in a flat earth is due to 2 factors, 1)the anti-science movement that regard the views of scientists and the authority of experts in specific fields with extreme suspicion and who reject all the available evidence, even when it is easily verifiable. This movement is closely related to the realm of conspiracy theorists, which brings us to factor 2)the internet and the rise of various nutcase enabling platforms like youtube, on which any barmpot with an opinion can reach an audience of millions of their fellow barmpots, sadly meaning that their deranged ideas are spreading at an exponential rate. Still this. |
