Revelation speaks of 144000 virgin men sealed from the 12 tribes of Israel who are 'bought from the earth' to be in the presence of God in heaven. |

a) Do you think they are literal Jewish men? b) Do you think they are literal virgins? C) Do you think their number is literal? Who do you think the 144000 are?

If in your interpretation only 144000 will go to heaven, do you think/hope you will make the cut?

The 144.000 are the imaginary dribblings of a man with delusions of grandeur.

@ ubersabr - 23.03.12 - 10:02am Well Revelations is a whole load of made up crazy so I guess it could mean anything you want. the problem is the lack of uniform systematic rules for separating literal from metaphor imo. |

Idk honestly but some say the number stands for the church, where it involves 12, a number of perfection, multiplied by 1000 to signify multitudes and that result (12000) multiplied by itself (idk why). The Israel is the church according to them and their virginity means purity. Idk also how these people explain their masculinity, what it means.

does that seem plausible to you.

Needless to say, this leaves more Qs than answers. If the Israel is the church, the 144000 can't be the whole church again. It would mean just a segment of the church, because the texts say the 144000 are 'sealed from the twelve tribes of Israel'. The 144000 are not the entire Israel in Qstn but are DRAWN from the Israel. In this interpretation it'd mean not everyone in the church will go to heaven, only some 'drawn' from it.
