@ 1signup2 - 4.09.12 - 06:13pm Ok can human influence on cause and effect?? Absolutely. Even if example of a person surviving in rubble for 8mths was true the rubble was once a building constructed by people. Had the room been 3ft that way the person would probably have died. If the building wasnt there at all then the person would not have been trapped. Your car accident is full of human influences |

@ dgsn - 5.09.12 - 05:19am I went through a brief list of questions that when answered would go someway into explaining it. Serfie also gave a list of different questions that when answered would help to explain it. |

@ 1signup2 - 4.09.12 - 04:17pm Even if i take your version correct the next question arise is what factors ensure that you are on good side of statistics?? Nothing ensures it. But if someone does just happen to be in the right place, etc at the point of impact, they will survive.. So it does happen occasionally and then it gets called a miracle because without knowing all the many, many factors involved, it seems impossible. That guy just won the lotto of life - gotta happen to someone, eventually, that is all... But that is just my totally atheist analysis of that... |

a miracle should be something not of this world, breaking the laws of physics. supernatural or magical. not something as simple as probabilities or coincidence falling in someones favour.

And that signup is how atheists explain miracles.

Very confusing

Nothing confusing about it whatsoever, lol - atheists DON'T believe in miracles - simple as that! They may jokingly refer to a bit of luck but that don't mean they suddenly believe in divine intervention!

What is confusing? But yes I will say 'luck', 'its a miracle' whatever as a figure of speech. If I won lotto I know it wasnt luck but would say ''gee wizz that was lucky'' Same with a car accident, surviving a building collapse blah blah. It is all cause and effect. Another common 'miracle' is praying something like cancer away. There is not 1 verified case of it ever happening.

As I was sayin a bit earlier on this thread, I'm apparently not a true atheist - I simply don't believe in JC, God/Allah or whatever you wanna call him... So, forgive me when I beg to differ on the cancer thing, because I personally know of at least 2 cases where this did happen and I've read a fair number of similar documented cases. However I think that faith healing is just a form of mind over matter. I belive in the existence of the soul and that it CAN influence the material universe.

No medical intervention at all? Just prayed it away?
