this is always the last option but if the pc is jam packed then it will help and will get rid of all of them, if you can make a backup of any personal files to dvd then you wont need to worry about erasing everything, if you only have one or two viruses kicking about the system then removal is the best solution

Executable files can be infected by a virus, .exe, .dll and others. Also the virus could spread to devices you have plugged in, such as a flashdrive or hardrive. Just don't backup executable files and turn autorun off after you have reinstalled the OS. Install Avira and scan the external drives.

How likely is it that the bios is infected too?

Very unlikely.

You can always use KillDisk to format your hard drive before u reinstall windows, KillDisk will wipe everything off completely, nothing will be recoverable.. Then reinstall windows, install Avira and Malwarebytes n let your lappy live a Virus free life

In my case I have to re format and install new os,it's my bosses laptop,he did not know what he was doing,he went on the net without a anti virus or anything,he did not make a recovery disk and his laptop did not come with any installation disks apart from the driver and utility disk,I just wanted to make sure that nothing at all is left on it before I install a new copy,I asked him if he put a av on the n he said yes,it was on there but not activated! Lol
