Just been given a PC for free, its not branded at all just in a black case , inside is an Intel core 2 quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz , 2 x 2GB Ram DDR2 , 500GB SATA HDD , 400W PSU , and an FSB 1333 multi core CPU apart from the HDD is any of this any good for gaming ? or should I just start over ? It is quite an old build probably 2007 .. |

the processor is the best bit although it's a bit shyte. It has no gpu and uses slow DDR2. I'd just start over

get a ssd boot drive and use the 500gb for media games etc.

for a good cheap case I recommend Thermaltake Commander. It supports USB 3.0, 4 fan mounts, a dust filter and a place for a large video card, 12.5 inches to be exact

it is! If you want a good gpu for the money, get a Radeon 7770 1GB. It can crank out good framerates without breaking the bank. For something more powerful thats still good for the money, Radeon 7850 2GB. It'll crush any game

also DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR PSU!!! I cannot say that enough. 600w should be good but make sure it's 80 plus certified. Also, I wouldn't get an Intel i7 when Intel i5 3570k is soooo good.

also, i5 3470 is d*mn GOOD for a budget build. And don't go for over 8GB RAM. 8GB is perfect. Theres just no need for it. Just wasted money that can be well spent elsewhere

was looking at i5 and an msi motherboard but there is so much choice I could spend about a year deciding at this rate then comparing prices etc lol

i5 3570k is a great choice for anyone really, but the lower end i5's are great too
