I tried baking an old GPU once, but I didn't have a very good oven and it didn't fix the card.

I would only attempt it if you're prepared to bin the laptop if it no longer works afterwards. There is a fairly good chance something could go wrong.

If it does work it probably wont last for very long and you will get the same problem again eventually.

I baked a 8800gtx ultra after it started artifacting and it worked a treat . Reflowing a laptop board is a more of a risk .

@newt so i have to replace gpu or mobo, right? Sigh... 2 days ago i was hoping that it was bad ram that caused this problem dude. I wish i knew all the bunch of stuff about heatsink, overheating, thermal paste, etc. I think in all laptop forum, we all shoul have a sticky thread entitled 'clean your laptop heatsink before overheating kills your laptop'. @Norega yeah, you're right, i think the risk is too huge..

How long can it survive freakman until you heat it again after that?

Dude, i heard someone manage to fix video card with hair blower because he doesn't have heat gun. What do you think?

Freakman yes dude, i think i'm gonna do this. I'm so desperate to fix it myself because i have an important home work to do. Can you tell me how do you put the mobo in the oven? Did you put the vga up side down or on top side? Did you heat your oven first or you put the mobo right when you turn on the heat? What components in the mobo that shouldnt be in the oven? How exactly do you cover the mobo with alumnium?
