Hi guyz, i currently have an amd computer with a processor amd athlon (tm) 170u and since its single core i want to upgrade it. My mobo is foxconn 2ab7 and has a am3 socket. What possible upgrades can i get. It has an ati radeon 3000 intergarated graphics. I want to transform it into a mini-gaming rig. Thank u |

Your motherboard can't support CPU's that require 125w of power. Try a 95w CPU like the 95w version of the Phenom II X4 945. Be sure to get the 95 watt variant.

I don't know how good your PSU is but if it's over 300w you should get a Radeon HD 6670. It's not an 'amazing' graphics card by any stretch but it's good enough to play games at a decent framerate on normal settings, well, depending on the game.

in order to gain any significant improvement in performance you wil need to upgrade your motherboard so you can use the new processors. you will also need to change your ram. Consider 2gb as a minimum. Intel is the best for overall performance but if you go the amd route it will cost far less and will still be much faster than what you have now.

the amd cpu may also be better for graphics than the intel especially if you can't afford a decent separate graphics card

The Haswell CPU's coming out next month are meant to be on par with a GTX 650.

So if that is true then you might be able to get GTX 650 performance with a really good CPU for a bit over 300 quid.

That will teach me for not reading up properly. Ok, it's more like a 630m, but that's still impressive for a CPU
