Intel are releasing there new platform this week and for the first time an affordable 6 core cpu under 300 pounds . Bargin me thinks , wont be buying just yet though until benches are in as my 4790k is preety fast at 4.4ghz . X99 will be a long lived platform and well worth the money . Still have a x58 980x system and its over 5 years old and still blood quick |

What scores are you getting on the 4790k?

I have not benched it .I swapped out the 4770k and dropped it in bumped up the voltage a touch and ran intel burn test for 6 hours and it was stable at that speed so just left it at that . Runs warm but a little less than the 4770k .

Quad channel memory breaking 50GB/s memory bandwidth on just 2133mhz RAM. Monstrous. 5960k might cost a fortune now, but there will be more consumer parts closer to it soon enough

So im sort of stuck in a rutt as they say .I can upgrade to the 5820k on the x99 platform next payday which is 17 september ,can sell my 4790k kit today for 350 so wont cost to much and its only a few weeks away . Havent seen game benches to compare but the bandwidth is crazy and multithread software eats up those extra cores . Or do i wait for skylake ... Grrrr dont know what to do .Watch this space |

This x99 is the true replacment for x58 in my eyes .will last just as long and at end of life you can snap up cheap server chips as old servers are broken down and sold off cheap .As an example you can pick u a Xeon 5650 6 core cpu for about 70 pounds that gives a 4790k a run for its money .Those on x79 now will be picking up 12 core xeons for silly money in a year if they hold onto there gear .

I tend to wait a year before considering purchasing a new processor, that way I will know if it a flop or not. It also allows manufacturers to make a good motherboard if it is a good processor. If there are only six to twelve different motherboards for a processor, go look for another processor. |

I'm due a bunch of upgrades but I'm not buying until next year. It is quite difficult to choose a platform right now that will last a long time, and it's hard to tell if Nvidia will launch their big beasty Maxwells in 6 months. If they do it'll probably be some Titan chip first and then mainstream stuff later.

Hope they call the next gtx 1080 and market it as a beyond 1080p chip really dedicated to 2160p gaming
