I've heard of this new virus. Where it locks up your comp and requires you to send money to unlock your comp. It sounds pretty wicked and hard to break. Is there anything I can do to protect myself and my system from attack. Has anyone else heard of this or have encountered this terrible virus |

It's a well known tactic. Backups are your friend.

Ransomware is a type of Trojan horse that you usually end up installing on your PC thinking it is something else. Beware of any free software on banner ads, especially the ones that say your PC has a problem. And just stay away from any pirated media, even photos. |

useful info. backups are a good solution. not just against this virus/malware,.. but also against hard drive failiure and loss of data. if something does happen, the best solution is to simply format all, reinstall the system, restore through automated settings and copy your files over. and never, ever give any penny to save your files. because doing so supports ransomware and you pay their developers for their work. i'd personaly rather loose very valuable and meaningful data, then fund existence of such programs. backups are a great suggestion to avoid going through all this and i think its a good idea, even if you browse smart. and as for the photos that can execute program code, thats a security flaw in the system or image viewer and should not have been even allowed to exist at all
