also disc/usb etc. autorun should be disabled on any OS. it is a novelty feature you don't need anyway so plug that security hole right away.

About scripts and trojans: DO NOT RUN unknown executable files and unknown scripts as admin/root. don't run them as super user either. Linux distros mitigate some of these problems by having their own repositories.

@ phly_kid - 7.10.15 - 03:08am I'm curious as to what is the current proper antivirus app to use in this day and age. Avira has stuck by me since back in the days it was the best free one out there. But also i had an ancient system that kaspersky slowed down to a halt. Is avira still good? Kaspersky still on top? What of Eset, bitdefender?? Malewarebytes it's compatible with Windows Defender |

@ warded - 9.10.15 - 07:58pm Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for occasional scanning too. Avira comes (or used to come) with ASK Partner Network shyte without telling you. And run Spybot Search and Destroy by Safer-Networking once too for good measure. Totally forgot Avira did that back then. Now they add stuff to your context menu without asking. Also other performance/speed up stuff without asking of course. Their official stance is that they no longer make individual AV or programs. |
