I dont have much trust in these drive health tools. I have a samsung 960 evo from 2017 that still shows 100percent health. It has been constantly in use as a boot drive. One thing to check with the nvme ssd-s is that there not running hot constantly. Those slots under gpus go hot and can degrade cheaper drives. I have a cheap 512 nvme running under the gpu for downloads and that thing is constantly in the red zone with temps. Its not even a gen 4 drive that gets hot.

@ savage01 - 27.08.21 - 06:23pm Had it about 6 months and still says 100per cent my HP laptop :-) I would not worry about the life cycle of the ssd. I still have all my ssd-s running that i have bought thru the years. Earliest is from 2012 so 9 years old. If its not faulty then it will go for many years. Propably will outlive that hp laptop as that brand has a serious failure rate. Mostly to do with cooling. Just keep it dust free and dont fry it in a blanket. |

I'm not much of PC user, isn't a boot drive gonna be pretty much read only ? it's write cycles that kill drives. |

@ 3mel - 23.09.21 - 11:26pm I'm not much of PC user, isn't a boot drive gonna be pretty much read only ? it's write cycles that kill drives. For the most part the c drive gets all the constant writes. Most ppl also have there downloads going there. Windows updates, temp data, savegames and most of the programs you install and uninstall usually get stored there. A drive dedicated for games for example usually gets them written on there for longer periods of time. My dedicated 512gb ssd downloads drive shows around 5tb of data written thru its lifetime. Dedicated game drive a 1tb ssd has 6tb. And my small boot ssd 250gb has 12.6tb of writes on it. I can imagine most ppl push most stuff thru there c drive not using any seperate drives. Laptops are kind of limited especially. |
