The head pastor of a new church that was constructed within our locality gave the Imam of our Mosque three crates of minerals and biscuits in his words as a Christmas present, Our Imam accepted the gift and was criticized by many with some even calling for his removal. Our Imam stood by his decision backing it with the Prophet(S.A.W.)'s relationship with the Jews and Christians of Medinah. His explantion went down with most of us. The issue was reported to be a renowned Islamic scholar who disagreed with our Imam's decision. What is your opinion on this subject? Give ur comments |

The most important thing the Ummah has to do is to see how much we can serve our religion and to get people at least sympathetic with it, In many cases,examples surpass words, may Allah guide and help us all.

I think your Imam took the right decision in accepting gift from the pastor. As he rightly pointed out, the Prophet(S.A.W) maintained a cordial and healthy relationship with people of other faiths.He even allowed a group of christians to pray in his Mosque at Medinah and gave them a nice reception. He also fraternized with the jews and visited them even in their temples in Medinah. It was also reported that' Umar ibn al-Khattab went to a Christian church and met the Patriarch of jerusalem and took the city keys from him upon his request. Moreover, 'Umar commanded' Ali ibn Talib to take some Muslims with him and go to the church to have a meal prepared for him for this occasion. Islam, in many ways, tries to bring people together to release the tension between nations for the benefit of humanity. We are, also told that Allah never punish any people without sending a Prophet to teach them about right and wrong, good and evil.

In light of these few examples, we can say that there is not wrong in the Imam accepting the christmas gift from the church. The Imam can in the same light give the head pastor and church a portion of the Uudhiyah meat during the Eid-ul-Adha. This will no doubt encourage peaceful co-existence. I would however have love to hear the basis on which the other Islamic scholoar disagreed with your Imam's decision. ALLAH KNOWS BEST |
