Meaning,,, If we worship anything other than Allah (whether it is idols, stars, powers of nature, spirits, or deified men, or Self, or Power, or Wealth, Science or Art, Talent or Intellect), our worship is both foolish and futile. -Commentators- *

Without Faith meaning here- it is obvious that prayer or worship has no meaning whatever. It is but an aberration of the mind. But there is a deeper meaning. You may have false faith, as in superstitious or in worshipping things other than Allah, as explained in the last note. In that case, too, you are pursuing mere phantoms of the mind. When you come to examine it, it is mere imbecility or futility. Worship and prayer are justified only to Allah, the One True God. -Commentators- *

Say: ''Call upon Allah, or Call upon Rahman: By whatever name ye call Upon HIM, (it is well): For to HIM belong The Most Beautiful Names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, Nor speak it in a low tone, But seek a middle course Between.'' -Surah 17.110- *

Meaning,,,:- Rahman describes one of the attributes of Allah,- HIS grace and Mercy which come to the sinner even before he feels conscious of the need of it,- the preventive Grace which saves Allah's servants from sin. *

Allah can be invoked, either by HIS simple name, which includes all attributes, or by one of the names implying the attributes by which we try to explain HIS nature to our limited understanding. -Commentators- *

And your Lord says: ''Call on ME; I Will answer your : But those who are Too arrogant to serve ME Will surely enter Hell Abased.'' -Surah 40.60- *

Say: ''Praise be to Allah, Who begets no son, And has no partner In (HIS) dominion: Nor (needs) HE any To protect HIM from humiliation: Yea, magnify HIM For HIS greatness and glory!'' -Surah 17.111- *

HE is the Living (One): There is no god bu HE: Call upon HIM, giving HIM Sincere devotion. Praise be To Allah, Lord of the Worlds! -Surah 40.65- *

''O MY servants, all of you are hungry (needy) except for those whom I feed, therefore seek food from ME so that I may feed you. O MY servants, all of you are naked (need clothes) except for those whom I provide garments, therefore seek clothing from ME so that I should clothe you. O MY servants, you sin by night and by day and I AM there to pardon your sins, therefore seek forgiveness from ME so that I should grant you pardon.'' -Hadith Qudsi- *

''O son of Adam, so long as you call upon ME, and hope in ME, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds in the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of ME, I shall forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to ME with an earthful of sins and were you then to face ME, without having associated anything with ME, I shall grant you an earthful of pardon.' -Hadith Qudsi- *

I have heard people say that i make du'a yet Allah does not respond to my prayers. They get frustrated and then leave du'a. They fail to realize that du'a is worship, and Allah is The Most Wise. A man asked Ibrahim ibn Adham 'why is it that we make du'a, yet Allah does not respond.' The famous ascetic replied in such a beautiful and striking way. He said 'because you know Allah yet you do not obey HIM. And you know the Prophet S.A.W, but do not follow his Sunnah. And you know the Quran, b *

...And you know the Quran, but you do not act upon it. And you eat from the blessing of Allah, but you do not express gratitude for it. And you know paradise, yet do not strive for it. And you know the fire of hell, yet do not run away from it. And you know shaytan, but do not fight him, and instead obey him. And you know death, but you do not prepare yourselves for it. And you bury the dead, but do not learn a lesson from it. And you have left your own faults, and instead busy yourself with the faults of others.' *

When MY servants Ask thee concerning ME, I AM indeed Close (to them): I respond To the prayer of every Suppliant when he calleth on ME: Let them also, with a will, Listen to MY call, And believe in ME: That they may walk In the right way. -Surah 2.186- *

Call on your Lord With humility and in private: For Allah loveth not Those who trespass beyond bounds. -Surah 7.55- *

Do not mischief on the earth, After it hath been Set in order, but call On HIM with fear And longing (in your hearts): For the Mercy of Allah Is (always) near To those who do good. -Surah 7.56- *

I use the name Jehovah, the Anglicized form of the Hebrew YHWH, which derives from the causative verb meaning 'to cause to become' or 'create'. But in my heart as well as my mind I am adressing Our Heavenly Father and Creator, whom we agree, hears the prayers of those who act and call upon Him with faith. *
