What do you know about Jehovah's Witnesses? Some people have called them Christian propagandists, a new Christian cult, a Christian sect influenced by Judaism, or fanatics who reject medical treatment. Actually, the Witnesses are none of these things. Why do some people think such things about them? Mostly because those people have been given wrong information. As their name shows, Jehovah's Witnesses are Witnesses for Jehovah. Who is Jehovah? Jehovah is the name that Almighty God gives to himself in the pages of the Bible.(Psalm 83:18: ''That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.(KING JAMES VERSION) It is a personal name, not a title like God or Lord. In a general sense, throughout history anyone who witnesses to God's glory could be called a witness of Jehovah.- Isaiah 43:10. Thus, the bible, when listing a long line of faithful men of old starting with Abel, calls them 'so great a cloud of WITNESSES.' (Hebrews 11:4 ; 12:1) Outstanding individuals such as Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and David are listed as God's witnesses- witnesses of Jehovah. Jesus Christ is called 'the faithful and true WITNESS.' -Revelation 3:14 |

WHY DO JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES PREACH FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE? -Jesus foretold for our day this work: 'This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.' He also instructed his followers: 'Go... and make disciples of people of all the nations.' _Matthew 24:14, 28:19.

When Jesus sent out his early disciples, he directed them to go to the homes of the people. The apostle Paul said regarding his ministry: 'I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE.'' -Acts 20:20,21; see also Acts 5:42

The message that the Witnesses proclaim involves the lives of people: they want to be careful to miss no one. -Zeph. 2:2,3- Their calls are motivated by love-- first for God, also for their neighbor. (Matthew 22:37-39)

'You are my witnesses, is the utterance of Jehovah.'-Isaiah 43:10. Jehovah's Witnesses today boldly witness to all nations about God, his great name, and his wonderful purposes. By living fully in harmony with God's guidance, Jehovah's Witnesses prove that they are his true people. They endeavor to apply God's laws in every aspect of their lives. Love and unity are prominent qualities among God's true people. Jehovah's Witnesses are a united people serving God in harmony, no matter where they are located. They live in more than 230 lands. They are not part of this wicked world alienated from God.-John 17:6. They do not take part in the world's conflicts, wars, or politics. Their international brotherhood is not undermined by nationalistic, racial, or religious interests that foment strife and disagreements. -Isaiah 2:2-4.

WHY DO PEOPLE FALSELY ACCUSE THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES? WHY DO PEOPLE PERSECUTE THEM? Jesus said: 'If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were part of the world, the world would be fond what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.'(John 15:18,19; 1Peter 4:3,4) The Bible shows that the whole world lies under Satan's control; he is the prin l instigator of the persecution. -1John 5:19; Revelation 12:17. Jesus also told his disciples:'You will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name.'(Mark 13:13) The word 'name' here means what Jesus officially is, the Messianic King. Persecution comes because Jehovah's Witnesses put his commands ahead of those of any earthly ruler.

HOW OLD IS THE RELIGION 'JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES'? Many people are unaware that JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES is the first religion of all time. WHO IS THE FIRST JEHOVAH'S WITNESS? With reference to Jesus Christ, the bible states: 'These are the things that the Amen says,the faithful and true witness,the beginning of the creation by God.' Of whom was Jesus a witness? Jesus name means Jehovah Is Salvation. Moreover, he himself said that he made his Father's name Jehovah manifest. Jesus, therefore, is the foremost witness of Jehovah. On the other hand, Hebrews 11:4 to 12:1 lists the early Jehovah's Witnesses, namely, Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses and many more... Verse 12 says of them: So then, because we have so great a CLOUD OF WITNESSES rounding us...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.'

DO JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES BELIEVE THAT THEIR RELIGION IS THE ONLY RIGHT ONE? YES! Of course. Anyone who is serious about his religion should think that it is the right one. Otherwise, why would he be involved in it? Christians are admonished: Make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine.- 1Thess 5:21. A person should make sure that his beliefs can be supported by the Scriptures, for there is only one true faith. (Ephesians 4:5) Jesus did not agree with the modern, relaxed view that there are many roads, many religions, all leading to salvation. Instead, he said, Narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.(Matt 7:14) Jehovah's Witnesses believe that they have found it. Otherwise, they would look for another religion.

Why do the Jehovah's Witnesses believe that their religion is the right one? Because they base all their beliefs, their standards for conduct, and organizational procedures on the Bible, their faith in the Bible itself as God's Word gives them the conviction that what they have is indeed the truth. So their position is not egotistical but demonstrates their confidence that the Bible is the right standard against which to measure one's religion. They are not self-centered but are eager to share their beliefs with others. (Of course there many more reasons why they believe that their religion is the right one. To know these reasons, please meet with the Jehovah's Witnesses in your area.) |
