To begin we will start with the sentance for 'My name is Sasuke', in japanese this is as follows: Watashi no namae wa Sasuke desu. Note: The exact translation of this 'My name Sasuke is' which is because the Japanese language user a different sentence structure than we are used to in English. |

I will now explain each part of the sentence above in more detail. The first word used is 'Watashi' on its own this means 'I' however combined with 'no' to make 'Watashi no' it means 'My', next we have 'namae' which is self explainitory (it means name !), we now have the name of the person (in this case Sasuke) in between 'wa' and 'desu' which togeather mean 'is' (in this sort of sentence these two words can also mean 'am' or 'are'), if there is no 'desu' at the end of the sentence it means 'is not'.

To help understand the sentence structure mose we will create a new sentence with the words above this time, 'What is your name?', in Japanese this is as follows: Anata no namae wa nani desu ka ? Studying the above sentence and the sentence for 'My name is Sasuke' you can start to see the basic sentence structure which follows the form '{subject}... wm {item/name} desu/desu ka?'. Where {subject} is the person you are talking about e.g. My (Watashi no), the word 'wa' indicates the preceding word is the subject. {item/name} could be for example 'Sasuke' if you are telling someone your name. Below I have included some more examples of how this sort of sentance could be used: Watashi wa Amerika-jin desu - I am American. Anata wa Naruto desu ka ? - Are you Naruto ? Watashi wa gakusei desu - I am a student.
