TRUTH ONE: Ephesians 2:8,9. Salvation by grace is a gift we can get not by our works. The fact that our salvation is by grace accepts the fact that we fail to live a holy life- otherwise, what is grace for? Or why do we pray for forgiveness of sins each day? We are all sinners (Rom 3:10,23) and we deserve death (Rom 6:23). Note that we are born sinners- Rom 5:12. Christ died to make the gift of salvation possible (1 Cor 15:22) to all men (Rom 5:15). A gift obtained NOT by our works...

TRUTH TWO: We need salvation by grace because we are sinners. How do we sin? 1 John 3:4 says by transgression of the law. The law defines sin for us, it does not make us righteous (Rom 3: 20). Its like a mirror that tells us that we have not combed our hair but it does not comb us. If we done away with the law, we won't know sin. Thus there will be no sinner and no need for salvation by grace! Do you see how challenging this truth is?

TRUTH THREE: Philippians 2:12 finishes as 'continue to work out you own salvation with fear and trembling'. This does not oppose the first verse above which says salvation by grace isn't by works! Suppose I wanted to send you a gift of some money but request your bank details. This means that for you to get the gift you have do something. Thats exactly how salvation by grace is! There is apart of obedience to the full will of God which we must play to receive this gift!

TRUTH FOUR: Do we then do all things including dirty because we are saved by grace? By no means! A penalty of death was paid to bring us this salvation. We were bought at a price (1 Cor 6:20). A very high price! You may wish to read Isaiah 53. Once saved by grace, you are now passing through a narrow road to heaven! Study more.
