Sad ibn Abi Waqqas (ra) said Allah's Messenger (SAAW) said; ''the supplication of Dhu'n Nun ( prophet Yunus peace be upon him) while he was inside the belly of a whale was: ''La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz zalimeen there is no god but You alone, glory be to You, surely I was one of the wrongdoers.'' (quran, al anbiya; 87) He said whenever a muslim asks Allah for something with with it ( this dua) Allah will certainly answer him.'' (Tirmidhi) |

Imam Muslim writes that Ubayy bin Kab (Allah be pleased with him) narrated that one day, the Prophet asked ''O Ubayy! What is the most excellent verse of the Quran?'' Ubayy replied, ''Allah and His Messenger know best.'' The Prophet said, ''In your opinion, what is the most excellent verse of the Quran?'' Ubayy bin Kab replied, ''Allah There is no god but He''(Ayat al-Kursi). The Prophet placed his hand on his chest and said, ''O Ubayy bin Kab! May your knowledge be pleasant for you.'' AYATUL KURSI Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Haiyul-Qaiyum La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm, lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-'ard Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnihi Ya'lamu ma baina aidihim wa ma khalfahum, wa la yuhituna bi shai'im-min 'ilmihi illa bima sha'a Wasi'a kursiyuhus-samawati wal ard, wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma Wa Huwal 'Aliyul-Adheem Hujjatul Islam Abu Hamid Al Ghazzali has stated the reason Aytul Kursi ( the verse of the throne) is the greatest verse in the Quran is because it is the verse which contains the The Greatest name of Allah |

In a another tradition it is reported that the Messenger of Allah has stated that the ''Ism Al-Azam'' is revealed in these three chapters of the quran; surah al Baqarah surah Aali Imran surah Taha but the Messenger of Allah did not specify the exact verse of the named chapters to indicate which is the Greatest Name of Allah. So many schloars of Islam have come to various interpretaion of what the Greatest Name could be after concluding their own research into the matter: ''Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa al Hayyu al Qayyum (none has the right to be worshipped but He the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists).'' - Al-Baqarah (2):255 ''Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa al Hayyu al Qayyum (none has the right to be worshipped but He the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists).'' - Aali Imran (3):2 ''Wa anateel wujuhu lil Hayyil Qayyum (And (all) faces shall be humbled before (Allaah) the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists).'' - Ta-Ha (20):111 This was related by Hafiz Ibn Katheer in his tafseer (explanation of the Quraan). Various traditions that other scholars have stated: It is reported that Imam Ar Razi rahimullah once saw a dream in which the Ism al Azam was revealed to him. In the dream he saw that Ism al Azam was; Hu Allah, Allah Allah al ladhi la illaha illa Rabbul arsheel Azim. Other narrations: ALLAH, ALLAHU HUWA, HUWALLAH, YA HUWA AR RABB AR RABB, YA RABBI YA RABBI ILLAHANA, ILLAHA LA ILLAHA ILLA HUU WA ILLAH HUKUM ILLAHU WAHID LA ILLAH ILLA HUWA ARRAHMAIR RAHIM BISMILLAH, BISMILLAHIR RAHMANIR RAHIM YA RAHMANUR RAHIM, AR RAHMAN, ALLAHUR RAHMANUR RAHIM YA RAHMANUR RAHIMUL HAYYUL QAYYUM YA ARHAMAR RAHIMIN YA HAAYU YA QAYYUM, ALIF LAM MEEM ALLAHU LA ILLAHA ILLA HUWA AL HAYYUL QAYYUM YA ZAL JALALI WAL IKRAM YA MALIKUL MULK YA AHADUS SAMAD All Praise is due to Allah SWT and the mistake is mine. |

Whoever reads the Qur'an will have read the Greatest Name probably without knowing it. Some of the companions of the Prophet, may Peace & Blessings of ALLAH Be upon Them, knew the Name. Ali Karramallahu Wachah (the fourth caliph), may ALLAH exalt him, was one who knew. ALLAH has hidden certain things out of His mercy. He has hidden the most righteous people is His eyes (Awliya), so people should respect one another indiscriminately. He has hidden His greatest Name in the Qur'an so people will read the entire Qur'an. One should memorize the 99 Names for one's own benefit. However learning the Names by heart is not the aim. The aim is to find the One who is Named. There is a Hadis related by Abu Umama which says that the Greatest Name with which prayer is accepted is in these three Suras of Qur'an: Al-Baqara, Al-Imran and Taha. In Al-Baqarateh verse is '' Wa ilahukum ilhum wahid.....verse 163 In Al-Imran teh verse is '' Alif Lam Mim. Allahu la ilaha illa huwalhayy al -Qayyum (1,2). '' In Taha the verse is '' wa'anatilwucuhu...(III) |
