Traditionally the pentacle is a ritual tool that symbolizes the creative element of earth (cohesion and manifestation). It is customarily made of clay or stone, and bears a green finish that represents abundance. On the face of the platter appears an interlaced five-pointed star. This symbolizes the etheric element of spirit over the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Spirit (the fifth element) provides equilibrium, which results in cohesion/manifestation as it directs and joins together the elemental process of creation.
